I absolutely love this piece by Lockhart. The subtleties of presentational psyche vs unconscious, the the history of modern art and imagination are incredible. I wanted to share some dream events around this….I had a dream the I was looking at Mt. Rushmore and staring at the stone carving of the 3rd president of Rushmore. I couldn’t remember who this was and looked it up and it was Teddy Roosevelt. I was very confused about this and had no associations and then the next night I dreamt that 2 Griffins were coming onto land. Griffins have eagle heads and wings and lion bodies…. The next day I awoke thinking a client of mine and thinking that I would send them Russ’s Appassionato paper because I thought if would really help them in understanding these ideas of imagination. I pulled it out of my files and there was Teddy Roosevelt all over the beginning of the paper and the idea of American manifest destiny….I suddenly understood the dream that I was still moving in this old style of ego and destiny and rational and the he was still the president of my psyche and even hardened and carved in stone….but the griffins were the imaginal and irrational coming to land….The Coming Guest???
